Bill Summary

This legislation, known as the "Utah Wildfire Research Institute Act of 2023," aims to amend the Southwest Forest Health and Wildfire Prevention Act of 2004 by requiring the establishment of an additional institute under that Act. This new institute would specifically focus on research and prevention of wildfires in the state of Utah. This amendment also includes the state of Utah in an existing provision that allows for collaboration between states in addressing wildfire prevention and management.

Possible Impacts

1. The establishment of the Utah Wildfire Research Institute could provide new opportunities for researchers and scientists to study wildfires and develop preventive measures, potentially leading to better protection for people living in high-risk areas.
2. The additional funding and resources allocated to the Institute could create more job opportunities for people in Utah, particularly in the fields of research and environmental conservation.
3. The inclusion of Utah in the Southwest Forest Health and Wildfire Prevention Act could lead to increased involvement and cooperation between the federal government and the state, potentially resulting in more effective and efficient wildfire prevention and management strategies.
