Bill Summary
This bill, known as the "Pedestrian Safety Study Act of 2020", requires the Department of Transportation to conduct a study on the impact of a high-speed rail project in Florida on the safety of motorists and pedestrians. The study will be conducted by the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Railroad Administration and will analyze the safety of individuals attending schools within one mile of the rail project. The results and recommendations from the study must be reported to relevant committees and the state transportation department within two years. Necessary funds will be allocated to carry out this bill.
Possible Impacts
1. The study could potentially lead to increased regulations and safety measures for motorists and pedestrians in the vicinity of the high-speed rail project, which could inconvenience people and potentially increase travel time.
2. The recommendations on safety improvements could result in additional costs for the rail project, which could lead to higher ticket prices for passengers or increased taxes for residents in the surrounding area.
3. The findings of the study could also affect the public perception and support for the high-speed rail project, potentially leading to delays or changes in its implementation.
