Bill Summary
This legislation, known as the "University of Utah Research Park Act," aims to release the United States' reversionary interest in certain non-Federal land in Salt Lake City, Utah. It confirms that the use of this land by the University of Utah as a research park, as approved by the Secretary of the Interior in 1970, is a valid public purpose under the "Recreation and Public Purposes Act." It also confirms any other uses of the land by the University that are consistent with a research park and related university purposes, such as student housing and a transit hub. The bill also includes a description of the non-Federal land in question and amends the title to specify its purpose.
Possible Impacts
1. The University of Utah may be able to expand their research park, which could provide new job opportunities for people in Salt Lake City.
2. The community in Salt Lake City may be affected by the development of student housing and a transit hub on the non-Federal land, as it could potentially increase traffic and congestion in the area.
3. The bill may affect the local economy, as the development and management of the non-Federal land by the University of Utah could bring in new businesses and revenue to the city.
