Bill Summary

This legislation nullifies a treaty that was made between the United States and the Confederated Tribes and Bands of Indians of Middle Oregon on November 15, 1865. The treaty was ratified by the Senate on March 2, 1867, but this new Act declares that the treaty shall no longer be valid. This means that the terms and agreements outlined in the treaty are no longer in effect. The legislation was passed by the Senate and House of Representatives and signed by the Vice President and President of the Senate.

Possible Impacts

1. This legislation could affect members of the Confederated Tribes and Bands of Indians of Middle Oregon, as it nullifies a treaty that was previously agreed upon between their tribe and the United States government. This could result in a loss of land, resources, or other benefits that were included in the treaty.
2. The legislation could also impact the relationship between the United States government and Native American tribes in general. By nullifying a previously agreed upon treaty, it may create tension and mistrust between the two parties.
3. The nullification of the treaty could also have financial implications for the Confederated Tribes and Bands of Indians of Middle Oregon. If the treaty included provisions for financial compensation or resources, the nullification could result in a loss of income and resources for the tribe.
