Bill Summary

The Tennessee Valley Authority Transparency Act of 2023 requires that certain meetings of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) be open and available to the public. This means that the TVA must hold at least four meetings per year and make them accessible to the public. They must also provide at least 6 days notice of any meeting through their website and make the minutes and summaries of these meetings available to the public. The only exception is for emergency meetings, which do not have to follow the notice requirement. This Act aims to increase transparency and public involvement in the decisions and actions of the TVA.

Possible Impacts

1. The Tennessee Valley Authority Transparency Act of 2023 could affect people by making certain meetings of the Tennessee Valley Authority open and transparent to the public. This could allow for greater accountability and awareness of the decisions made by the Authority.
2. The Act could also require the Board to meet at least four times a year, which could affect people by potentially increasing the frequency of public discussions and decisions regarding the Tennessee Valley Authority.
3. The provision for emergency meetings could also affect people by allowing the chairman of the Board to call a meeting without prior public notice. This could potentially limit the public's ability to attend and participate in important discussions and decisions made by the Authority.
