Bill Summary

This is a bill that is proposing an amendment to title 18 of the United States Code to include railroad police officers in the definition of qualified law enforcement officers. The purpose of this bill is to expand the scope of the "Law Enforcement Officers Safety Expansion Act" to include railroad police officers, in addition to officers from other agencies. This amendment would allow railroad police officers who are commissioned or certified by a State to have the same privileges and protections as other qualified law enforcement officers under this act. This includes retired railroad police officers who would also be granted the same privileges and protections as retired law enforcement officers.

Possible Impacts

1. This legislation could potentially expand the scope of qualified law enforcement officers to include railroad police officers, giving them the same legal protections and authority as other law enforcement officers. This could affect railroad police officers by increasing their status and authority within the law enforcement community.

2. The bill could also allow retired railroad police officers to carry concealed weapons under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Expansion Act, similar to other retired law enforcement officers. This could provide retired railroad police officers with a level of protection and authority they may not have had before.

3. By amending the definition of qualified law enforcement officers to include railroad police officers, this legislation could potentially lead to increased training and resources for railroad police officers. This could have a positive impact on their ability to effectively and safely carry out their duties.
