Bill Summary

The Special Diabetes Programs for Indians Reauthorization Act of 2019 is a bill that seeks to amend the Public Health Service Act in order to continue special programs for Native Americans aimed at preventing and treating diabetes. The Act would reauthorize these programs for five years, from 2020 through 2024, and increase the funding from $150 million to $200 million annually. The purpose of this legislation is to address the high rates of diabetes among Native American populations and provide necessary resources for prevention and treatment.

Possible Impacts

1. The reauthorization of special diabetes programs for indigenous populations could provide increased access to resources and treatment for those with diabetes, potentially improving their health outcomes and quality of life.
2. The allocation of funding for diabetes services in fiscal years 2020 through 2024 could potentially create job opportunities for healthcare professionals and support staff in the Indigenous community.
3. The limitations set on the amount of funding allotted for these programs could limit the scope and effectiveness of services provided to Indigenous populations with diabetes.
