The resolution recognizes and supports the goals of National Forensic Science Week, which is set to be observed from September 14 to September 20, 2025. It emphasizes the importance of forensic science in the criminal justice system, highlighting its role in investigating crimes, prosecuting offenders, and exonerating the innocent. The resolution encourages collaboration between forensic science service providers and federal, state, and local agencies to enhance public safety and improve forensic capabilities.

Key provisions include:

1. Acknowledgment of the contributions of forensic scientists and promotion of community events to raise awareness about forensic science.
2. Encouragement of local policymakers to formally recognize the week and visit forensic laboratories to understand their needs.
3. Engagement of the general public and media to participate in events and learn about the operations of forensic science laboratories.
4. Invitation for law enforcement and public safety officials to collaborate with forensic laboratories to improve the effectiveness of forensic services.

Overall, the resolution aims to celebrate the contributions of forensic science to society and promote greater awareness and understanding of its vital role in the justice system.

Possible Impacts

Here are three examples of how the legislation recognizing National Forensic Science Week could affect people:

1. **Public Awareness and Education**: By encouraging forensic science service providers to organize community events and tours, the legislation can enhance public understanding of forensic science. This could lead to greater awareness of how forensic evidence is used in criminal investigations and trials, potentially fostering a more informed citizenry regarding the justice system and the importance of scientific evidence.

2. **Support for Forensic Laboratories**: Local policymakers are encouraged to recognize and commend the contributions of forensic science laboratories. This could lead to increased funding and resources for these laboratories, improving their capabilities to process evidence and thereby enhancing public safety. As a result, communities may benefit from more effective crime-solving and a reduction in wrongful convictions.

3. **Collaboration Between Agencies**: The resolution promotes collaboration among forensic science service providers, law enforcement, and public safety officers. This collaboration could lead to more effective communication and cooperation, improving the overall efficiency of crime investigations. As forensic science laboratories and law enforcement agencies work together more closely, the quality of forensic analysis may improve, benefiting both victims and accused individuals through more accurate and reliable outcomes in the justice system.
