Bill Summary

This resolution authorizes the taking of pictures and filming in the Chamber of the Senate for use by the Capitol Visitor Center. The resolution temporarily suspends a rule that prohibits picture taking in the Senate Chamber, allowing for pictures and filming to occur while the Senate is in session or in recess. This is only allowed for a maximum of 7 days, and the specific dates, locations, and times must be approved by the Committee on Rules and Administration. The images taken and film made can only be used by the Capitol Visitor Center for specific purposes and must be approved by the Committee. The Capitol Visitor Center, in collaboration with other parties, is responsible for ensuring that the picture taking and filming does not disrupt any Senate proceedings.

Possible Impacts

1. People visiting the Capitol Visitor Center may be able to see pictures and video footage of the Senate Chamber, which they were previously not allowed to see, due to the temporary suspension of the rule prohibiting photography.
2. The Committee on Rules and Administration will have control over when and where the pictures and filming can take place, which could affect people who want to take pictures or film at a specific time or location.
3. The resolution limits the use of the images to only be used for specific purposes, such as exhibits and video presentations in the Capitol Visitor Center. This could affect people who may have wanted to use the images for other purposes, such as news reporting or personal use.
