Bill Summary

This legislation is a resolution passed by both the Senate and House of Representatives in order to disapprove of a specific rule submitted by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The rule in question relates to updating the Commission's conciliation procedures and was published in the Federal Register on January 14, 2021. This resolution serves to nullify the rule and prevent it from having any legal impact. It was signed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Vice President, who also serves as President of the Senate.

Possible Impacts

1. The legislation could affect employees who have filed discrimination complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The new rule may make it more difficult for them to reach a settlement with their employer through the conciliation process, potentially leading to a longer and more expensive legal battle.
2. The legislation could affect employers who are facing EEOC complaints. The new rule may limit their ability to negotiate a settlement with the EEOC, potentially leading to a longer and more expensive legal battle.
3. The legislation could affect the EEOC itself, as it is now prohibited from implementing the rule and must continue using its previous conciliation procedures. This could lead to delays and challenges in resolving discrimination complaints.
