Bill Summary

This legislation, called the "Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act of 2024," aims to make improvements to the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act. It increases the federal share of funding for conservation efforts from 25% to 33.3%, requires a report to Congress on the implementation of cooperation efforts, extends the authorization of appropriations until 2028, and makes technical corrections to definitions and cooperation clauses. These amendments aim to enhance conservation efforts for migratory birds in the Americas.

Possible Impacts

1. This legislation could affect conservation efforts for Neotropical migratory birds by increasing the federal share of funding for conservation projects from 25% to 33.3%. This could potentially lead to increased protection and preservation of these birds and their habitats.

2. The legislation could also affect how the Secretary reports on their implementation of subsections related to cooperation and advisory groups, requiring them to submit a report to Congress within 180 days. This could increase transparency and accountability in the conservation efforts for these birds.

3. By authorizing appropriations until 2028, this legislation could ensure that there is continued funding for conservation efforts for Neotropical migratory birds, potentially providing more stability and resources for these efforts.
