Bill Summary

This legislation, referred to as the "Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Act", is a bill that proposes to amend the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act in order to reauthorize it. The Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act is a law that provides funding for conservation and protection efforts for bird species that migrate to and from the United States and other countries in the Americas. This bill seeks to continue this funding by authorizing $6,500,000 to be appropriated for each fiscal year from 2020 to 2024. Additionally, it mandates that at least 75% of these funds must be used for projects outside of the United States. This legislation has been introduced to the Senate and House of Representatives and is currently being considered for approval.

Possible Impacts

1. This legislation could negatively affect people who rely on funding from the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act for conservation projects, as the bill is only reauthorizing the Act and not increasing the budget for it.
2. The requirement that at least 75% of the funds be used for projects outside of the United States could potentially limit the impact of the Act on bird conservation efforts within the country.
3. People who are passionate about the protection of migratory birds in the Americas may be pleased by the reauthorization of the Act and the potential for continued conservation efforts.
