Bill Summary
This bill seeks to amend the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act in regards to eligibility for certain programs. Specifically, it aims to exclude certain payments to Alaska Native elders for determining their eligibility for these programs. This would be achieved by adding a new provision to the existing Section 29(c) of the Act, which would state that any amount or benefit received from a Settlement Trust by a Native or descendant of a Native who is 65 years of age or older will not be considered for eligibility purposes. The purpose of this amendment is to protect the financial stability and well-being of Alaska Native elders by ensuring that their payments from Settlement Trusts are not counted against them when determining eligibility for various programs.
Possible Impacts
1. The amendment to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act could exclude certain payments to Alaska Native elders, potentially leading to financial struggles for those individuals.
2. Eligibility for certain programs may be impacted as a result of this legislation, potentially limiting access to resources and support for Native communities.
3. The changes to the Act may affect the distribution and management of Settlement Trusts, which could impact the livelihoods of Native individuals and their descendants.
