Bill Summary

This resolution addresses the censure of Representative Andrew Ogles and his removal from the House Committee on Homeland Security due to his public statements perceived as Islamophobic and discriminatory. The resolution outlines several instances where Ogles allegedly expressed views that Muslims do not belong in American society and made remarks suggesting a conspiracy among Muslim officials to establish an Islamic government. These comments are deemed inappropriate for a member of Congress, especially one serving on a committee responsible for national security. The resolution emphasizes the importance of diversity and inclusion in American society, as well as the constitutional principle of religious freedom. Consequently, it calls for Ogles to be formally censured and removed from his committee position to uphold the values of the House of Representatives.

Possible Impacts

The resolution to censure Representative Andrew Ogles and remove him from the House Committee on Homeland Security could have several effects on people, including:

1. **Impact on Muslim Communities**: The censure serves as a formal condemnation of Islamophobic rhetoric, which may provide a sense of validation and support to Muslim communities who feel targeted by Ogles' statements. It could foster a more inclusive atmosphere by signaling that hate speech and discrimination are not tolerated at the highest levels of government, potentially encouraging individuals to speak out against discrimination and fostering solidarity among diverse communities.

2. **Political Climate and Discourse**: The resolution may influence the broader political discourse by setting a precedent for accountability among elected officials. It could embolden constituents and advocacy groups to challenge similar rhetoric from other politicians, thereby promoting a political environment that prioritizes respectful dialogue and discourages hate speech. This may lead to changes in the way political candidates approach discussions about race, religion, and immigration.

3. **Effects on Legislative Committees**: Ogles' removal from the House Committee on Homeland Security could alter the dynamics of the committee and its decision-making processes. His absence may result in a shift toward more diverse perspectives in discussions related to national security and immigration policy. This change could influence the development of legislation and policies that are more inclusive and sensitive to the needs of minority communities, ultimately affecting how national security is framed and implemented.

                               RESOLUTION

 Censuring Representative Andrew Ogles and Removing Him from the House
                    Committee on Homeland Security.

Whereas, on March 9, 2026, Representative Andrew Ogles used his official
        accounts on the social media platforms X and Instagram to publicly state
        that ``Muslims don't belong in American society'' and that ``pluralism
        is a lie'';
Whereas Representative Andrew Ogles has made statements on the podcast,
        Restoring The Republic, suggesting that Muslims will ``breed their way
        through our society'';
Whereas Representative Andrew Ogles has repeatedly made public statements
        regarding Muslim elected officials, suggesting that they are conspiring
        to institute an Islamic government;
Whereas Representative Andrew Ogles has a repeated history of using his official
        accounts on social media platforms to spread Islamophobic, racist, and
        anti-immigrant rhetoric; language and behavior unfit for a Member of
        Congress, going so far as to call for the denaturalization and
        deportation of elected officials for no reason other than their religion
        and background;
Whereas Representative Ogles's behavior and predisposition to discriminate
        against immigrants and minorities are alarming and inappropriate given
        his role on the House Committee on Homeland Security, raising serious
        questions about his ability to serve;
Whereas the United States of America is built on the principle of ``E Pluribus
        Unum'' and the welcoming of people across cultures and our strength
        through diversity; and
Whereas the Constitution of the United States guarantees freedom of religion as
        one of the five fundamental freedoms detailed in the First Amendment:
        Now, therefore, be it
    Resolved,

SECTION 1. CENSURE OF REPRESENTATIVE ANDREW OGLES.

    That the House of Representatives--
            (1) Representative Andrew Ogles be censured;

            (3) Representative Andrew Ogles be censured with the public
