Bill Summary

This legislation aims to amend Title 40 of the United States Code to expand the coverage of the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) by including Ontario County. The NBRC is a federal-state partnership designed to support economic development in the northern border region of the United States. By adding Ontario County to the list of regions served by the NBRC, the bill seeks to enhance economic opportunities and development efforts in that area. The specific amendment involves inserting "Ontario" after "Oneida" in the existing statute, thereby formally recognizing Ontario County as part of the commission's jurisdiction.

Possible Impacts

The legislation to amend title 40, United States Code, to include Ontario County in the region covered by the Northern Border Regional Commission could have several effects on the local population, including:

1. **Increased Access to Federal Funding**: By including Ontario County in the Northern Border Regional Commission, residents and local governments could gain access to federal grants and funding opportunities aimed at economic development, infrastructure improvements, and community enhancement projects. This could lead to better public services, job creation, and overall economic growth in the region.

2. **Enhanced Regional Collaboration**: Being part of the Northern Border Regional Commission may facilitate greater collaboration among Ontario County and neighboring counties. This could lead to joint initiatives in areas such as tourism, transportation, and environmental conservation, fostering a stronger sense of community and shared goals while addressing regional challenges more effectively.

3. **Potential for Improved Infrastructure and Services**: With the inclusion in the commission, Ontario County could benefit from initiatives focusing on infrastructure development, such as roads, transportation systems, and broadband access. Improved infrastructure can enhance the quality of life for residents, attract new businesses, and make the area more appealing for visitors and potential new residents.
