Bill Summary

The proposed legislation aims to nullify the Henry Mountains and Fremont Gorge Travel Management Plan (TMP), a decision made by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in January 2025. If enacted, this bill would prohibit the Secretary of the Interior from implementing, administering, or enforcing the TMP, effectively rendering it void and without legal effect. The TMP typically outlines regulations and management strategies for land use in the designated areas, so this legislation would eliminate those provisions, allowing for potential changes in land management practices in the Henry Mountains and Fremont Gorge regions.

Possible Impacts

The proposed bill to nullify the Henry Mountains and Fremont Gorge Travel Management Plan (TMP) could affect people in the following ways:

1. **Access to Recreation Areas**: The nullification of the TMP may lead to increased access to the Henry Mountains and Fremont Gorge for recreational activities such as hiking, camping, off-roading, and wildlife viewing. People who enjoy these activities may benefit from fewer restrictions, allowing for greater freedom to explore these natural areas.

2. **Environmental Impact**: Without the TMP's guidelines, there may be a risk of increased environmental degradation due to unregulated access. This could affect local wildlife habitats, water quality, and soil erosion, potentially leading to long-term ecological consequences that would impact not only the natural environment but also the experiences of visitors who seek clean and preserved landscapes.

3. **Local Economy**: The change in management could impact local businesses that depend on tourism and outdoor recreation. Increased visitor access may initially boost economic activity for businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and gear rental shops. However, if environmental degradation occurs due to overuse, it could lead to a decline in tourism over time, ultimately harming the local economy and the livelihoods of those who rely on it.
