Bill Summary
The Tennessee Valley Authority Salary Transparency Act is a federal law that exempts the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) from certain reporting requirements under the Federal Reports Elimination and Sunset Act of 1995. This act requires the TVA to submit a report on the total number of employees at the management level or above, including their names, salaries, and duties. This information is exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act and the Access to Congressionally Mandated Reports Act. The Act was passed by the House of Representatives on January 15, 2025 and requires the TVA to report on employee compensation.
Possible Impacts
1. Increased transparency in salary information for employees at the management level and above could lead to potential backlash or scrutiny from the public if there are significant pay disparities or excessive compensation for certain individuals.
2. The exemption from disclosure and reporting requirements for salary information may create confusion or mistrust among the public, especially if they view the Tennessee Valley Authority as a publicly-funded organization.
3. The legislation could potentially have a direct impact on employees of the Tennessee Valley Authority, as their salaries and duties will now be publicly disclosed. This could lead to discomfort or concerns among employees who may not have wanted their salary information to be made public.
