Bill Summary

The "Right to Eat Authentic and Legitimate Meat Act of 2025" (also known as the "REAL Meat Act of 2025") is a proposed bill in the United States that aims to prohibit the use of federal funds to support the production and promotion of cell-cultured meat. Cell-cultured meat is defined as meat that is produced in a laboratory using animal cells, rather than from traditional animal farming methods. This bill would prevent the use of federal funds for research, support of meatpacking plants or organizations related to cell-cultured meat, any assistance programs for products containing cell-cultured meat, and the promotion of cell-cultured meat. However, there is an exemption for the use of federal funds by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for the production of cell-cultured meat intended for consumption in space.

Possible Impacts

1. This Act could affect individuals who are interested in consuming cell-cultured meat, as it prohibits the use of Federal funds to support its production. This may make it more difficult for them to access or afford this type of meat.

2. It could also affect farmers and meat producers who are researching or producing cell-cultured meat. They would no longer be able to receive assistance or benefits from the government for their work, potentially hindering their progress and success in this area.

3. The Act may also impact the advertising and promotion of cell-cultured meat, as federal funds cannot be used for these purposes. This could limit the visibility and awareness of this type of meat among the general public, making it more difficult for companies to market and sell it.
