Bill Summary
The Small Transit Communities Modernization Act, also known as the "Small Transit Communities Modernization Act," is a bill that aims to amend Title 49 of the United States Code. This amendment would allow certain urbanized areas with a population of over 200,000 to be eligible for funding under the small transit intensive cities formula. This bill also includes provisions for other purposes related to transit and urban areas. The bill clarifies the definition of "eligible area" and provides exceptions for certain transit agencies that serve urbanized areas with a population of less than 200,000. This includes criteria for eligibility based on performance categories and the most recent decennial census. The bill specifies that this legislation will be in effect from the date of enactment through fiscal year 2030.
Possible Impacts
1. People living in urbanized areas with a population of over 200,000 may now be eligible for certain benefits or funding under the small transit intensive cities formula. This could potentially improve public transportation options for these individuals.
2. Transit agencies serving urbanized areas with a population of less than 200,000 may see an increase in funding due to their eligibility under this legislation. This could lead to improved services and infrastructure for commuters in these areas.
3. The performance of urbanized areas with a population between 200,000 and 999,999 will now be compared to the industry average, potentially putting pressure on local governments to improve the quality of life in these urban centers. This could positively impact the lives of residents in these areas by encouraging improvements in areas such as public transportation, infrastructure, and overall livability.
