Bill Summary

This bill, titled the "Protecting Our Elderly Residents Act of 2020", requires the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to issue guidance on protecting homeless individuals living in federally assisted properties from the COVID-19 virus. The guidance must set limitations on non-emergency and non-resident access to public housing and supportive housing for the elderly in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This legislation aims to provide a framework for protecting vulnerable populations during the pandemic.

Possible Impacts

1. The Act requires the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to issue guidance on limiting access to public housing and supportive housing for the elderly in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This could potentially affect people who live in these types of housing, as they may have limited access to visitors or non-emergency personnel during the pandemic.
2. The Act is specifically focused on protecting the homeless population residing in federally assisted properties. This could directly impact homeless individuals who rely on these properties for shelter and support.
3. The Act mandates that the guidance be issued within 30 days of its enactment. This could potentially affect the timeline and implementation of the guidance, which may have a direct impact on the elderly and homeless residents living in these properties.
