Bill Summary
This bill, titled the "American Wild Game and Livestock Protection Act," requires the Secretary of the Interior to issue a final rule removing the gray wolf from the list of endangered and threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. This must be done within 60 days of the bill's enactment, and the rule will be exempt from any other laws or regulations that may hinder its issuance. Additionally, the bill states that this decision and the rule itself cannot be reviewed by a court of law.
Possible Impacts
1. The delisting of the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act of 1973 could potentially impact the livelihoods of ranchers and farmers who rely on livestock for their income. With the delisting, there may be less protection for their livestock against potential wolf attacks.
2. Environmentalists and conservationists who advocate for the protection of endangered species may be affected by this legislation. They may see the delisting of the gray wolf as a setback to their efforts to preserve and protect endangered species.
3. Native American communities, particularly those who view the gray wolf as a sacred or culturally significant animal, could be impacted by this legislation. The delisting of the gray wolf could potentially lead to increased hunting and trapping of the species, which would go against their beliefs and traditions.
