Bill Summary

This bill aims to extend the authorization of the Department of Defense mentor-protege program, which was initially established in 1991. The program provides support and assistance to small businesses by pairing them with larger companies as mentors. The bill amends the National Defense Authorization Act to extend the program's authorization until September 30, 2023, and also extends the deadline for the Department of Defense to report on the program's effectiveness until September 30, 2026. This legislation highlights the government's efforts to support and foster the growth of small businesses through mentorship programs.

Possible Impacts

1. The legislation could potentially benefit small businesses by extending the Department of Defense mentor-protege program, allowing them to receive valuable guidance and support from larger, more established companies.
2. The extension of the program could also lead to job creation and economic growth as small businesses are able to improve their capabilities and competitiveness through the mentorship program.
3. On the other hand, the legislation could also limit opportunities for smaller businesses if the mentor-protege program is dominated by a few large companies, potentially leading to a lack of diversity and competition in the defense industry.
