Bill Summary

This bill proposes to amend the existing law in the United States Code, specifically title 28, in order to expand the definition of "other institutions" for the purpose of acquiring, preserving, and exchanging identification records and information. This would include police departments that serve census-designated private resorts and have the authority to make arrests according to state laws, allocate a significant portion of their budget to criminal justice administration, and meet training requirements for law enforcement officers. The bill is intended to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of identification records and information sharing among law enforcement agencies.

Possible Impacts

1. People living in census-designated private resorts may be affected by this legislation as their local police department may now be considered an "other institution" and have access to their identification records and information.
2. Law enforcement officers in police departments serving census-designated private resorts may be affected by this legislation as they may now be required to meet certain training requirements established by law or ordinance.
3. Citizens who have been arrested by the police departments mentioned in this legislation may be affected as their identification records and information may now be shared with other institutions without their consent.
