Bill Summary
This bill, known as the "Gray Wolf State Management Act of 2019", directs the Secretary of the Interior to reissue a final rule regarding the listing of the gray wolf under the Endangered Species Act. The bill also expresses the sense of Congress that states should consult with tribal governments when developing wolf management plans.
Possible Impacts
1. The reissuance of the final rule regarding gray wolves in the Western Great Lakes could potentially affect people who live in these areas and have a stake in the management and conservation of the gray wolf population. They may have to adapt to new regulations and policies surrounding the management of the species.
2. The consultation with Tribal governments is important in the drafting of State wolf management plans, which could potentially affect the rights and resources of Native American communities. This legislation could have a significant impact on the relationship between the Tribal governments and the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
3. The mention of "other purposes" in the bill could leave room for interpretation and potential changes to other aspects of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, which could have a wide-reaching impact on endangered species conservation efforts and the people involved in these efforts.
