Bill Summary

The Athletics Fair Pay Act of 2019 is a bill that aims to amend chapter 2205 of title 36 of the United States Code in order to ensure fair pay for amateur athletes. It requires each national governing body for a sport to submit a report on the compensation of amateur athletes to Congress every year. This report must include information on the median and range of compensation, broken down by race and gender. The bill also includes a retroactive effective date and a clause stating that if any part of the bill is found to be unconstitutional, it will not affect the rest of the bill.

Possible Impacts

1) It could ensure fair pay for amateur athletes, potentially increasing their income and financial stability.
2) It could require national governing bodies to submit reports on pay equity, bringing attention to any disparities and potential discrimination.
3) It could potentially lead to legal challenges if any provisions or amendments are deemed unconstitutional, affecting the lives of those involved in the case.
