Bill Summary
This legislation, titled the "Labor Market Response Act," requires applications for a health profession opportunity grant to include evidence of in-demand jobs or worker shortages. It amends section 2008 of the Social Security Act to add a new requirement for grant applications to contain information about the availability and relevance of recent labor market data and other evidence of high-demand jobs or worker shortages. This amendment will go into effect on October 1, 2019.
Possible Impacts
1. This legislation could potentially limit the availability of health profession opportunity grants for individuals seeking education and training in fields that are not considered "in-demand" or have worker shortages. This could affect people who are interested in pursuing these fields but may not have access to financial support.
2. The requirement for evidence of in-demand jobs or worker shortages could also impact the types of job opportunities available for individuals, as employers may focus on these areas in order to receive grants and incentives.
3. The effective date of October 1, 2019 could affect individuals who are planning on applying for a health profession opportunity grant after that date, as they may need to adjust their timeline or plans in order to meet the new requirements.
