Bill Summary

This legislation, called the "National Security Accountability Act", aims to amend the National Security Act of 1947 in order to require that the President appoints the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs with the advice and consent of the Senate. This means that the Senate must approve the appointment of this individual, who is responsible for advising the President on matters of national security. This amendment would add a new subsection to the National Security Act, stating that the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs must be appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.

Possible Impacts

1. Limiting the President's power to appoint the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs could result in delays in filling the position, potentially leaving the country vulnerable to security threats.
2. The requirement for advice and consent from the Senate could lead to a more politically contentious confirmation process for this position, potentially causing division among members of Congress and the public.
3. The new subsection added to the National Security Act could create more checks and balances within the government, potentially promoting transparency and accountability in national security decisions.
