Bill Summary
This legislation, known as the "Hire Student Veterans Act," aims to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 in order to provide a work opportunity tax credit for employers who hire veterans receiving educational assistance under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs or Defense. This credit would apply to veterans attending an educational institution with assistance from laws such as Chapter 30, 31, 32, 33, or 34 of Title 38 or Chapter 1606 or 1607 of Title 10. The bill also modifies the minimum employment period for this credit and applies to individuals who begin work after the enactment of the act.
Possible Impacts
1. The Hire Student Veterans Act may incentivize employers to hire more veterans who are receiving educational assistance, potentially leading to more job opportunities for these individuals.
2. The legislation may also help alleviate financial burdens for student veterans by providing them with work opportunities and potential tax credits.
3. The effective date of the legislation may prompt employers to start hiring student veterans sooner rather than later, potentially benefiting those who are actively seeking employment.
