Bill Summary

The VAWA Protections for Rural Women Act of 2019 is an amendment to the Violence Against Women Act of 1994. Its purpose is to extend the protections of the original act to include the rural development voucher program as a covered housing program. This means that individuals who receive housing assistance through the rural development voucher program will now have access to the resources and support provided by the Violence Against Women Act. This amendment also makes changes to section 41411(a) of the original act, specifically adding rural development housing voucher assistance provided by the Secretary of Agriculture to the list of covered programs. The amendment is also referred to as the "VAWA Protections for Rural Women Act of 2019".

Possible Impacts

1. The VAWA Protections for Rural Women Act of 2019 will expand the coverage of housing programs to include rural development housing voucher assistance. This will positively affect women living in rural areas who may have previously had limited access to affordable housing options.

2. This bill will also allocate funding for the rural development housing voucher program, which could potentially benefit low-income families and individuals who are struggling to find affordable housing in rural areas.

3. The inclusion of this program in the Violence Against Women Act may bring attention to the issue of domestic violence in rural areas and potentially lead to increased resources and support for survivors in these communities.
