Bill Summary

This legislation is proposing an amendment to the United States Constitution that would allow Congress to limit the number of terms that Representatives and Senators can serve. The resolution was introduced by both the Senate and House of Representatives, with two-thirds of each House agreeing to the proposal. If the amendment is ratified by three-fourths of the state legislatures within seven years, it will become a part of the Constitution. The proposed amendment would give Congress the power to pass laws that limit the number of terms that Representatives and Senators can serve in office. This is aimed at preventing long-term incumbency and promoting new representation in government.

Possible Impacts

1. This legislation could affect the careers and job security of current and future members of Congress, as it would limit the number of terms they can serve in office. This could potentially lead to turnover in leadership and a shift in the political landscape.
2. The passage of this legislation could also impact the power and influence of certain politicians who have held their positions for multiple terms, as they would no longer be able to maintain their seat indefinitely.
3. The public could also be affected by this legislation, as it would potentially limit the amount of time a certain representative or senator can serve as their elected official, potentially resulting in a change in policies and priorities for their district or state.
